Political Polling

Political polls are typically telephone surveys conducted before or during political campaigns as a means of identifying issues of importance to voters, gauging their opinions on those issues, and predicting factors such as likely voter turnout and voter preferences.

Market Street Research has conducted polls for political candidates, lobbying groups, and other organizations with an investment in the political process for more than 20 years. We conduct comprehensive surveys designed to identify candidates' perceived strengths and weaknesses as well as brief, "horse race" polls used to track candidates' comparative likelihood of winning an election. We have surveyed both voters and legislators on their attitudes toward, among other issues:

  • Gambling and casinos
  • Taxes on property owned by religious organizations
  • Child abuse and neglect
  • Development of historic buildings
  • Civil registration for same-sex couples
  • Land use and agriculture
  • Public education
  • Municipal services

Most political polls are considered proprietary, and are not revealed to the public unless conducted by media organizations (candidates normally do not release polls they conduct for their own purposes). We are happy to provide references of our clients who have used Market Street Research for political polls that are public record, however. See MSR's Client list for more information, or contact us for references specific to your needs.

Exit Polls

Exit polls are in-person surveys conducted at polling places. Voters are asked by volunteers or paid interviewers to complete a brief survey after they have voted. The results of these surveys are typically used to generate outcome predictions before voting is completed. Market Street Research does not conduct exit polls, but we are more than happy to recommend alternatives for candidates interested in this service.
